AWARD is the 10th anniversary best album by WEST.. Released by ELOV-Label on March 13, 2024.
This is the first album since they renamed themselves WEST. It was released in three formats: Limited Edition A, Limited Edition B, and Regular Edition. For the first time in the group's history, each edition is a triple-disc set, and all 30 of their singles and album lead songs are included in each edition, for a total of 50 songs (the bonus tracks are different for each of the three editions).
The album title was secretly announced in the song voting "WEST. 10th ANNIVERSARY AWARD" held on the fan club website after the release of the triple A-side single "Zettai Zetsumei / Beautiful / AS ONE" on October 25, 2023. As with past albums, the title also contains a "W", but this time, the "W" in the album logo has a gold Roman numeral "X" hidden inside it to celebrate the 10th anniversary. The title was thought up by Ryusei Fujii for the best album to be released on the 10th anniversary, and was decided on with the support of the other members.
"FICTION" is the theme song for the movie "Aru Tozasareta Yuki no Sanso de" starring Shigeoka Daiki. Information was released in a trailer video that was first released at the movie's beginning event held on October 19, 2023, and the event was broadcast live as a surprise on the Aurora Vision at Ikebukuro PARCO. The dramatic sound of piano and strings, the sad melody line and the fast-paced song are interspersed with lyrics that ask, "How much is fiction?" and are unclear whether they are lies or truths, and seem to link with the movie. The world view is also incorporated into the music video that premiered on YouTube on January 10, 2024, and the boundary between fiction and non-fiction is ambiguous, with trick-like images of people being replaced one after another every time the camera moves and the members are shown, and meaningful cuts of members holding watches and wine glasses. Nakama performs magic in the movie, but later revealed that he had a lot of trouble filming it because he is clumsy. The choreography was done by kazuki of s**t kingz, and in the music video, the seven members can be seen singing and dancing stylishly on a theater stage in long black coats. WEST. appeared as a secret artist at the "SDGs Promotion TGC Shizuoka 2024 by TOKYO GIRLS COLLECTION" held at the Twin Messe Shizuoka North Exhibition Hall on January 13th, and performed this song for the first time at the event.
This album contains two lead songs with completely different styles: the glamorous party tune "AWARD" on DISC 1 and the cool dance number "REWARD" on DISC 2. The music videos for the former premiered on WEST.'s official YouTube channel "WESTube" from 22:00 on February 4th, and the latter from 23:10 on the following day, February 5th. Not only were the two music videos filmed on the same day, but they also have two sides to the story; for example, in "AWARD," Nakajima holds a glass of champagne and a flash goes off for a moment, while in "REWARD" Kamiyama holds a camera and presses the shutter. There are moments throughout the music videos that make the two stories feel connected, and when played simultaneously they all seem to be connected.
