Haku (ハク。) is a 4 piece band formed in Osaka, Japan in 2019[1].
Overview[]
Haku is a girl band composed of 4 members. They are currently best known on YouTube for their cover of Kamu kamo shikamo ni-domo kamo! (かむかもしかもにどもかも!)[2] by MONO NO AWARE. Their music is claimed to be inspired by the US and UK indie genre.[3]
Not much is known of Haku's origins that is publicly available online or social media. Band member Ai is credited for writing all of their songs, so it could be assumed that she was responsible for the formation of the band. Their origin is credited to be in 2019, but it would take them a year to post their first song online.
Prior to their first digital single release, in 2020 Haku posted a lyric video for their song APPLE PIE and a music video for BLUE GIRL on YouTube, which were both later used in their first mini album Youth Diary.
In 2021, BLUE GIRL was featured in the "teen talent discovery project" Jū-dai hakusho 2021 (十代白書2021) and won the grand prize.[3]
The same day Youth Diary had released, Haku would preform their first solo live show which was a huge success for the small growing band.[3] Following this, Haku would go to tour and preform live around Japan in various music clubs and events, though at a small scale.
Haku would return to composing in late 2021, with their release of Naive Girl. They would continue to release 4 other singles in the year of 2023, leading up to the release of their first full album, Bokurajanakyadameninatte. Similarly to their mini album release, Haku would continue to preform live in 2023
Also in 2023, band members Kano and Mayu would graduate from the same vocational school in Japan. They had attended for 2 years and both claim to have joined and played in Haku during their time there.[4][5]
A year later in 2024, Haku would compose and release their digital single dedede. Continuing throughout the year they would release singles The universe of my mind and Ai! but would continue their live performances.
Currently, Haku has garnered much popularity through touring and preforming around Japan. They hold a large social media following, having hundreds of thousands of followers on Instagram. They also have a trait of releasing 'Studio Sessions' of their music, which typically include the four in a vertical screen orientation of recording, rehearsing a song. Their light-hearted personalities and fun chemistry make them a desirable band to listen and enjoy.
