Hey! Say! JUMP is a Japanese eight-member boy group under STARTO ENTERTAINMENT consisting of Yabu Kota, Takaki Yuya, Inoo Kei, Yaotome Hikaru, Arioka Daiki, Yamada Ryosuke, Nakajima Yuto, and Chinen Yuri. They debuted on November 14, 2007, with their first single "Ultra Music Power".

Background[]

Their group name "Hey! Say!" refers to the fact that the members were born during the Heisei period, while "JUMP" is short for Johnny's Ultra Music Power. They are divided into two sub-units, Hey! Say! BEST and Hey! Say! 7.

History[]

2007[]

On April 3, Hey! Say! 7 was formed during a concert held by KAT-TUN in spring. It consists of Takaki Yuya, Arioka Daiki, Yamada Ryosuke, Nakajima Yuto, and Chinen Yuri from Johnny's Junior.

On June 16, Hey! Say! 7 was announced to release their single "Hey! Say!" on August 1. Its title track was featured as the second opening theme of the animation Lovely Complex, while its B-side was featured as the second ending theme of the same animation. The single sold 120,520 copies in its first week, making them the youngest boy group to top the Oricon chart.

On September 24, the formation of Hey! Say! JUMP was announced during the JOHNNYS' Jr. Hey Say 07 in YOKOHAMA ARENA, broadcast through the HEY!HEY!HEY! MUSIC CHAMP MIYO!3 JIKAN NAMAHOUSOU SPECIAL. The five members of Hey! Say! 7 was joined by Yabu Kota, Inoo Kei, Yaotome Hikaru, Okamoto Keito, and Morimoto Ryutaro from Johnny's Junior.

On October 7, they start of broadcast BAKUSHOU 100BUN TEREBI! HEISEI FAMILIES, featuring Yamada, Nakajima, and Morimoto as its regulars.

On November 3, they start of broadcast Hi! Hey! Say!, featuring Yabu and Yaotome as its regulars.

On November 14, they released their debut single "Ultra Music Power" from Storm Labels, featured as the theme song for World Cup Volleyball 2007 in Japan.

On November 2 to December 2, they was appointed as a special supporter for World Cup Volleyball 2007.

On December 22, they held their first independent concert Hey! Say! JUMP Debut & First Concert Ikinari! in Tokyo Dome, making them the youngest boy group ever to perform in Tokyo Dome with an average age of 15.2 years old.

2008[]

On March 20 to 26, they was appointed as a special supporter for the 39th Spring High School Volleyball National Tournament.

On April 4 to May 6, they held their concert Hey! Say! JUMP Spring concert 2008.

On April 6, they start of broadcast JIKUUKAN☆SEDAI BATTLE SHOWA×HEISEI SHOW WA Hey! Say!, featuring Yamada, Nakajima, and Morimoto as its regulars.

On May 21, they released their second single "Dreams come true", selling 181,000 copies in its first week and topping the Oricon chart.

On May 31 to June 8, they was appointed as a special supporter for "2008 BEIJING OLYMPIC VOLLEYBALL WORLD FINAL QUALIFICATION".

On July 23, they released their third single "Your Seed / Bouken Rider", featured as the image song for the Japanese release of the animation film Kung-Fu Panda. It sold 160,000 copies in its first week and topped the Oricon chart.

On August 2 to September 5, they participated in the stage play "SUMMARY 2008".

On September 29, Hey! Say! 7 start of their radio broadcast "Hey! Say! 7 Ultra Power".

On October 22, they released their fourth single "Mayonaka No Shadow Boy", featured as the theme song for the drama Scrap Teacher starring Yamada, Nakajima, Arioka, and Chinen on Nippon TV. It sold 211,000 copies in its first week and topped the Oricon chart.

On December 20 to January 5 the following year, they held their concert Hey! Say! Jump-ing Tour '08-'09.

2009[]

On March 20 to 26, they was appointed as a special supporter for the 40th Spring High School Volleyball National Tournament.

On March 21 to 25, Hey! Say! 7 held their first independent concert Hey! Say! 7 spring concert 09 MONKEY.

On March 31 to May 4, they held their concert Hey! Say! JUMP CONCERT TOUR '09 HARU.

On April 5, they end of broadcast JIKUUKAN☆SEDAI BATTLE SHOWA×HEISEI SHOW WA Hey! Say!, replacing with SCHOOL KAKUMEI!, featuring Yamada, Chinen, and Yaotome as its regulars.

On June 7, Yamada and Chinen start of their activities as part of "NYC boys".

On July 23 to August 27, they held their concert Hey! Say! SUMMER CONCERT '09 JUMP TENGOKU.

On September 13, they held their concert Hey! Say! JUMP TENGOKU DOME NANI GA OKORUKA WAKARANAI!? TOKYO DOME.

On October 10, they start of broadcast SHUUMATSUYY JUMPing, renewal program of Hi! Hey! Say!, continuing with Yabu and Yaotome as its regulars.

On November 25, they released their first photobook Hey! Say! JUMP First Photobook.

On December 19 to January 6 the following year, they held their concert Hey! Say! JUMP WINTER CONCERT 09-10.

2010[]

On February 24, they released their fifth single "HITOMI NO SCREEN", featured as the theme song for the drama Hidarime Tantei Eye starring Yamada on Nippon TV. It sold 202,000 copies in its first week and topped the Oricon chart.

On March 2, Yamada and Chinen was announced to start their activities as part of "NYC" alongside Nakayama Yuma.

On March 20 to 26, they was appointed as a special supporter for the 41st Spring High School Volleyball National Tournament.

On April 2 to May 16, they held their concert Hey! Say! 2010 TEN JUMP.

On April 2, they started their appearance as a support act in The Shounen Club annual program.

On July 7, they released their first studio album JUMP NO.1.

On July 19 to August 29, they participated in the stage play "SUMMARY 2010".

On December 15, they released their sixth single ""ARIGATOU" ~Sekai no Doko ni Itemo~".

On December 25 to January 16 the following year, they held their concert Hey! Say! JUMP "Arigatou" 〜Sekai no Doko ni Itemo〜 WINTER CONCERT 2010-2011.

2011[]

On March 28 to May 29, they planned to hold their concert Hey! Say! JUMP with NYC SPRING CONCERT 2011 but its March performance was cancelled due to the impact of Great East Japan earthquake.

On April 10 to May 29, they held their concert tour Hey! Say! JUMP& "YUUKI 100%" NATIONAL TOUR.

On April 16, they start of broadcast YOUNG YOUNG JUMP.

On June 27, Morimoto was reported by Weekly Josei to had smoked in his past, giving him the penalty to pause his activities for an indefinite period. Hey! Say! JUMP continuing with its nine members.

On June 29, they released their seventh single "OVER". It sold 265,390 copies in its first week and topped the Oricon chart, making it their highest first-week sales.

On August 7 to September 11, they participated in the stage play "SUMMARY 2011".

On September 18, 24, and 25, they participated in the stage play "SAYONARA NATSUYASUMI! SUMMARY SPECIAL".

On September 21, they released their eighth single "Magic Power", featured as the theme song for the Japanese release of the animation film The Smurfs.

On November 14, Morimoto's profile was erased from "Johnny's net", "Johnny's web", and "J Storm" official website.

2012[]

On February 22, they released their ninth single "SUPER DELICATE".

On March to June, they held their first concert tour around Asia.

On June 6, they released their second studio album JUMP WORLD.

On July 8 to September 23, they held their concert tour Hey! Say! JUMP TOUR 2012.

On August 2 to October 13, they held their nationwide concert tour smart.

On July 8, their first one-shot variety program ITADAKI HI JUMP initially broadcast on December 29, 2014, was changed into regular variety program.

On August 11 to October 15, they held their concert tour Hey! Say! JUMP I/Oth Anniversary Tour 2017.

On November 14, they held the event "ULTRA JUMParty 〜Shin no Hey! Say! JUMP wa Ore da!!〜" in Tokyo Gymnasium, commemorating their debut 10th anniversary.

On June 23, Okamoto was announced to pause his activities from the entertainment industry for the sake of him studying abroad at THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF DRAMATIC ARTS NEW YORK.

  • On October 12, 2023, Hey! Say! JUMP announced through their fan club that they would no longer be performing the song "Ultra Music Power", their debut song, as a consequence of the agency's sexual abuse scandal, citing the lyric line "J! Johnny's!" as the reason. They also stated they won't change the group name as they never considered the "J" in "JUMP" as "Johnny's" and will continue to perform as Hey! Say! JUMP.

2024[]
