Honne to Tatemae (本音と建前; Intention and Action) is the 24th single by Sexy Zone. It was released on September 20, 2023 through Top J Records. The single sold 226,000 copies in its first week and debuted at number one on the latest "Oricon Weekly Single Ranking" announced on September 26.[1]
Background[]
The title song was written by Sheena Ringo, featured as the theme song for the drama "Our Fake Marriage" (ウソ婚 Usokon) starring member Kikuchi Fuma on KTV and Fuji TV.[2] It was written by Sheena based on the original manga and script of the drama, conveying the theme of "a sweet and sour adult love story that starts with a lie".[2]
Recording[]
Sexy Zone met Sheena for the first time during the recording session. Even though they were nervous, they finished the recording happily according to Sheena's careful direction. The completed song has an addictive finish that makes the listeners want to listen to it again and again with the chemistry of each member's unique singing voice and the memorable melody.[2]
Kikuchi, who was provided with the theme song for the starring drama, said, "It's like a dream, and it's true that I haven't really felt it yet. I didn't expect Sheena Ringo to be present during the recording. I hadn't even seen it, so I was really surprised when I heard about it in advance." He compared it to the title and revealed his true intentions, saying, "When I first heard the completed song, I got goosebumps and my knees laughed" he recalled.[2]
