Jounouchi Sanae (城之内早苗) is a Japanese enka singer, a former actress, a former idol, and a former member of Onyanko Club.

She joined Onyanko Club on May 10, 1985, and graduated on September 20, 1987, where the group disbanded.

History[]

In 1984, Jounouchi was scouted after trying out for the All Japan Enka Championship. She recorded three indie enka singles but went on hiatus while producers planned her next steps. In 1985, she passed a CBS/Sony "pre-screen" audition for Onyanko Club. She tried out a few weeks later and officially joined Onyanko Club on May 10th as member #17.

Known for her graceful demeanor and strong singing ability, Jounouchi made her solo debut in June 1986 with the enka single Ajisai Bashi, which became the first debut enka single to top the Oricon charts. She became an unofficial group leader in 1987 and delivered the final speech at Onyanko Club’s dissolution concert on September 20th, 1987, which was also when she graduated from the group.

Jounouchi has continued her career as an enka singer ever since.

Trivia[]

  • She has the longest lasting solo singing career of all Onyanko Club members.
  • She married the former lead director of Yuuyake Nyan Nyan, Kimura Tadahiro (木村忠寛), in December 2004. After Onyanko Club disbanded they retained sporadic contact over the years and began dating when Jounouchi was in her thirties.[1]
  • Jounouchi was roommates with Kawai Sonoko during the beginning months of Onyanko Club in the Sony Music female employee dormitory. She also shared a floor with Kokusho Sayuri, Watanabe Minayo, and Kudo Shizuka. [1]
    • Kawai was also Jounouchi's best friend in Onyanko Club.
  • In 2021 and 2022, Jounouchi released covers of a selection of Onyanko Club soloist act debut songs on her official YouTube channel.
