Matsuno Rina (松野莉奈) was a member of Shiritsu Ebisu Chugaku and Mini Cheer☆Bears.
She passed away on February 8, 2017, at the age of 18.[1]
Death[]
Matsuno was unable to perform at her group's concert the day before due to a health issue and was taking medical treatment at home in Tokyo. In the early morning on February 8 her condition suddenly worsened. At around 5 am, her parents called the emergency services. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. It is presumed that she died from an illness. In her last post on Instagram on February 6 she said that she had returned from a family trip to Hakone.
Sankei Sports reported on February 10 that according to Matsuno's agency (Stardust Promotion), "lethal arrhythmia" is suspected as the cause of her death. All upcoming concerts and events were cancelled and the group went into a period of mourning, with a farewell event held on February 25.
Legacy after Death[]
After the group resumed activities after her death, they were determined to never let fans forget and to let new fans learn about her:
- In their fourth album, Ebicracy, the song "Nanairo" was written in remembrance of her. The group would later perform this song on THE FIRST TAKE as a milestone.
- Her solo recording of Kanjou Densha (感情电车) in their fourth album was released.
- Her attendance number (#09) has been reserved and vacant.
- Her member color is currently used to express support for every member and group as a whole during concerts.
- The members have mentioned her during important speeches in concerts. They have also shown their longing and missing for her on social media.
