Not to be confused with Mizuta Mari. Mizutani Mari (水谷麻里) is a Japanese former idol singer.
History[]
Mizutani got her start in entertainment at the age of 14 in 1985 after winning the '86 Miss Hair Cologne Image Girl Contest out of over 54,000 applicants. She was then scouted professionally and made her debut as an idol in 1986. Mizutani was very popular at live events, so she participated in many music festivals. She won many rookie awards her debut year, and four out of her ten released singles reached the top ten on the Oricon charts.
Following a concert performance in 1988, Mizutani announced that she would be going on an indefinite hiatus. In 1990, it was announced that she had married illustrator and manga artist Eguchi Hisashi and that she had decided to permanently retire from entertainment as a result.
After retiring she became a housewife and gave birth to one daughter.
