Nakayama Miho (中山美穂) was a Japanese singer, actress, and a former idol.

She passed away on December 6, 2024 at the age of 54.

History[]

Born in Nagano, Nakayama's parents divorced after her younger sister Shinobu's birth, and her mother took full custody and moved to Gunma. Inspired by the success of Candies, Nakayama aspired to enter entertainment herself. After her mother remarried an aspiring musician, the family relocated to Tokyo. From there Nakayama auditioned for several entertainment opportunities as a child but found little success.

At age 12, she was street scouted in Harajuku and debuted as a model with Box Corporation in 1983. In 1984, she left Box Corporation for BIG APPLE (Burning Production), which helped her land roles in dramas. She gained recognition in the 1984 drama Maido Osawagase Shimasu as a popular supporting character and debuted as an idol singer in 1985. By 1988 she was a top selling musical artist and popular teenage actress.

In 1999, she shifted her career completely to acting and began starring in several hit drama series and movies. She took a sudden hiatus in 2002 after marrying author Tsuji Hitonari and moving to Paris, France, which delayed several projects, causing her to be blacklisted for a short while. Her first child, a boy, was born in 2004 while she was still living in Paris. In 2007 she moved back to Japan and resumed her acting career. She announced her divorce from Tsuji in 2014 and announced that he had recieved full custody of their son. Nakayama then resumed her singing career in 2019.

Around noon on December 6, 2024, Nakayama's staff announced the cancellation of her evening concert from her concert tour Miho Nakayama Christmas Concert 2024 in Billboard Live due to poor health.[1] Later, she was found unresponsive in her Tokyo home and pronounced dead at the scene. According to media, she had collapsed in the bathroom.[2][3][4][5][6] On December 8, 2024, it was announced that the results of her autopsy confirmed that there was no foul play and that the cause of death was an accident that occurred while she was bathing.[7][8]
