Okamoto Maiko (岡本舞子) is a former idol singer, former actress and former model.
History[]
Okamoto began her career in entertainment at the age of four as a child model and actress. In late elementary school, she began appearing on the children's television show Mama to Asobou! Pin Pan Pon. Around this time she enrolled in Hirao Masaaki's music school and began vocal training. When she entered middle school in 1983, she graduated from hosting children's programming to more family friendly television shows, and worked beside Saijo Hideki for a time. 13 year old Okamoto got her big break in 1984 when she was chosen to sing the opening theme of the anime series Mahou no Yousei Persia and unofficially made her debut as a singer. Soon after, she was scouted to make her debut as an idol the following year. She won many rookie awards from various newcomer contests in 1985.
After her debut year, Okamoto began appearing in various other entertainment ventures like musicals and stage plays. She also got her first leading role as an actress in the 1987 movie Maiko Monogatari. However, following the release of the movie, she retired from the entertainment industry at the age of 17.
Although she has never made a reappearance in the media, it was reported that she married and had a child after she retired.
