Sakamoto Ryuichi (坂本龍一) was a keyboardist, composer, and arranger.
He was diagnosed with oropharyngeal cancer in June 2014. Although he recovered from oropharyngeal cancer, he was then diagnosed with throat cancer and rectal cancer, and passed away on March 28, 2023 at the age of 71 after his stage 4 rectal cancer had spread to both of his lungs.[1][2]

- He was married three times. His first marriage was to a college girlfriend, Natsuko, from 1972 to 1982.[3] His second marriage was to fellow singer and frequent collaborator Yano Akiko from 1982 to 2006, although they were separated from roughly 1992 to 2006. In the early 1990s Sakamoto entered into an affair with United States based music producer Norika Sky-Sora, and married her sometime after his divorce was made official. They remained married until his death in 2023.
- He was the father of three children and one stepchild whom he legally adopted. He was also a grandfather of at least three grandchildren.
- Eldest Daughter Akiko (born with Sakamoto Natsuko), born in the early 1970s. Not much is known about her other than her mother recieved full custody of her upon their divorce.
- Eldest Son Futa (son of former wife Yano Akiko and her first husband), born in the late 1970s. He worked as a flight attendant for Delta Airlines.
- Youngest Daughter Miu (born with Yano Akiko), born 1980. She is active as a singer.
- Youngest Son Neo Sora (born with Norika Sky-Sora), born in 1991. He is active as a film director in the United States and directed a bio-pic about his father, Ryuichi Sakamoto: Opus, which was released in March 2024.
