Trivia[]

  • The group was very similar to another famous mega-group, Onyanko Club, as they shared a similar name and concept, all members participated in a variety show and sub-units were created inside the group. However, there was no actual relation to Onyanko Club as they were owned by different television networks, so it is not considered a successor group of Onyanko Club.
  • SMAP gained a lot of exposure on the Sakurakko Club television show as supporting cast members and backup singers/dancers. They eventually eclipsed the popularity of both Sakurakko Club Sakuragumi and Hikaru GENJI (another popular boy band who acted as the show's main hosts) and split off completely.
  • Many members of Sakurakko Club Sakuragumi were also active as stage actresses in musicals during their tenure, most notably Seramyu.
    • Although Akimoto Yasushi was not involved with Sakurakko Club, he repurposed this concept while developing AKB48 and its affiliated groups. In 2018, his group Nogizaka46 revived the traditional format of Seramyu with all main character actresses casted from an active idol mega group.
