Shimada Kaho (島田歌穂) is a Japanese actress, singer, professor, and former idol.

History[]

She was born to two musician parents and became interested in entertainment at a very young age. She made her acting debut in 1974, and debuted as an idol in 1981. However, just one year later she auditioned for the lead role in a stage production of the musical "Cinderella" and was selected. She decided she liked stage performance so she retired from her idol career.

In 1987, she was selected for the role of Eponine in the first Japanese production of "Les Miserables" to critical acclaim worldwide. She was selected to represent Eponine in "The Royal Variety Cast" that performed in front of British Queen Elizabeth II that same year, and then participated on the "Worldwide Cast" selection in 1990. Both times she was the only Japanese participant. She would perform this role until 2001 when she retired to work on other projects.

She has also participated in Kohaku Uta Gassen twice for the 39th and 40th year.

She is still a musical theater actress as of 2023, but is mainly active as a professor for college students.
