Trivia[]
- Tamaki has been married five (officially four) times:
- Unnamed ordinary woman from Hokkaido (1983-1986)
- Yakushimaru Hiroko (1991-1998)
- Ando Satoko (1999-2007)
- Ishihara Mariko (2009, annulled)
- Aota Noriko (former C.C. GIRLS) (2010-present)
- He considers Inoue Yosui his "teacher" of the musical world.
- He is friends with several musicians, such as MIYAVI, Tokunaga Hideaki, and CHAGE. In the mid-1990s he was so close with Moriyama Ryoko and her son Moriyama Naotaro that he was more often at their home than his own. Tamaki and Moriyama both claim that their relationship has always been platonic.
- In the 1980s, he was famous for his heavy makeup and gothic inspired fashion. However, starting in the 1990s, he started dressing very casually during stage performances, often in jeans and a simple T-shirt. In the mid 1990s, he began going grey, but decided to not dye his hair because he "liked the color."
- In 2021, Tamaki was deemed a "Japanese national treasure of music" by over 190 musical experts.[1]
- He played baseball in middle school and was also his grade's class president.
- He has been sober from alcohol since 2016.
- In a 2010 biography created through interviews[2], Tamaki revealed that he has struggled with mental health issues throughout his life, although he did not specify which disorders. He admitted that he was sent to a psychiatric hospital in 1993, but left prematurely after three days. In 2010, at a concert in Fukuoka, he began acting strangely on stage, slurring his speech and yelling at fans in the crowd. The concert was cancelled mid-show. In a later public statement, he claimed that a medication he was taking caused him to hallucinate the crowd's cheers as jeers, and apologized for his behavior.[3]
