timelesz, formerly known as Sexy Zone, is a Japanese three-member boy group under STARTO ENTERTAINMENT. They were formed as five in 2011 and debuted with the single "Sexy Zone" from Pony Canyon on November 16 of the same year.

History[]

Pre-debut[]

  • Before debuting as Sexy Zone, each of its members had their solo activities. Nakajima and Kikuchi were members of "B. I. Shadow" along with Kochi Yugo and Matsumura Hokuto, who later became a member of SixTONES. Sato, Matsushima, and Marius were members of "Ja(PA)Nese(HI)!".

2011: Debut[]

  • On September 29, their formation and CD debut were announced during a press conference in the Imperial Theatre. Their group name was determined by Johnny Kitagawa based on Michael Jackson's sexy image. Their final line-up was decided four days before the conference, emphasizing those who had proven the sexiness of a man. Marius, whose father is German and mother is Taiwanese-born Japanese, was added to bring internationality to the group. After the conference, the decided members took part in Johnny's Imperial Theatre Special Kis-My-Ft2 with Johnny's Jr. at the same place, introducing their debut song.
  • On November 16, their debut single "Sexy Zone" was released. It was featured as the image song for the 2011 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Cup. They were also appointed as its special supporters.

2012: one Sexy Zone[]

  • On February 11, their first one-man concert Sexy Zone First Concert 2012 was held.
  • On April 11, their second single "Lady Diamond" was released. It was featured as the theme song for the variety program hosted by themselves Real Scope Z on Fuji TV.
  • On August 1, their first photobook Sweetz was released under Shuheisha.
  • On August 10, they participated in the Great East Japan earthquake restoration charity program held at the National Stadium.
  • On October 3, their third single "Sexy Summer ni Yuki ga Furu" was released. It was featured as the theme song for the variety program Real Scope Z on Fuji TV.
  • On November 14, their first studio album one Sexy Zone was released.

2013[]

  • On March 26, their first nationwide concert tour Sexy Zone Japan Tour 2013 was opened.
  • On May 1, their fourth single "Real Sexy! / BAD BOYS" was released. It was featured as the theme song for the variety program Chousennyuu! Real Scope Hyper on Fuji TV and the theme song for the drama BAD BOYS J on NTV, respectively.
  • On October 9, their fifth single "Bye Bye Dubai ~See you again~ / A MY GIRL FRIEND" was released. It was featured as the theme song for the variety program Chousennyuu! Real Scope Hyper on Fuji TV and the theme song for the drama 49 on NTV, respectively.
  • On December 31, they debuted in the 64th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen as the first batter of the white team, performing a medley of "Sexy Zone", "Lady Diamond", "Sexy Summer ni Yuki ga Furu", "Real Sexy!", and "Bye Bye Dubai ~See you again~".

2014: Sexy Second[]

  • On February 19, their second studio album Sexy Second was released.
  • On March 5, their first TV program "Sexy Zone CHANNEL" started broadcasting.
  • On March 26, their second nationwide concert tour Sexy Zone Spring Tour Sexy Second was opened to promote their latest album.
  • On May 5, the formation of their junior group "Sexy Show" consisting of Matsushima along with Matsuda Genta and Matsukura Kaito from Johnny's Jr. and "Sexy Boyz" consisting of Marius along with Iwahashi Genki and Jinguji Yuta from Johnny's Jr. was announced at their concert at Yokohama Arena.
  • On May 14, their sixth single "King & Queen & Joker" was released. It was featured as the theme song for the variety program Chousennyuu! Real Scope Hyper on Fuji TV.
  • On July 15, a recital of their new song "Otoko never give up" was held in Yoyogi Gymnasium. It was later released as their seventh single on October 1. The single only featured Nakajima, Kikuchi, and Sato.
  • On July 23, their concert Sexy Zone Summer Concert 2014 was held. Matsushima and Marius joined Nakajima, Kikuchi, and Sato in their performance at Saitama Super Arena.
  • On November 19, their eighth single "Kimi ni HITOMEBORE" was released. It was featured as the theme song for the drama Kurofuku Monogatari starring member Nakajima on TV Asahi.

2015: Sexy Power3[]

  • On March 11, their third studio album Sexy Power3 was released.
  • On March 15, their nationwide concert tour Sexy Zone Sexy Power Tour was opened.
  • On July 1, their ninth single "Cha-Cha-Cha Champion" was released. It was featured as the image song for the 2015 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Cup on Fuji TV in which Nakajima, Kikuchi, and Sato were appointed as its main hosts.
  • In August, Nakajima, Kikuchi, and Sato performed their respective solo concerts in "Sexy Zone A.B.C-Z Summer Paradise in TDC", while Matsushima and Marius participated in "GAMUSHARA! SUMMER STATION" with Johnny's Jr.
  • On December 16, their tenth single "Colorful Eyes" was released. They also restarted their activities with five members.

2016: Welcome to Sexy Zone[]

  • On February 24, their fourth studio album Welcome to Sexy Zone was released.
  • On May 3, their 11th single "Shori no Hi made" was released. It was featured as the image song for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Volleyball World Final Qualification on Fuji TV.
  • On October 19, their 12th single "Yobisute" was released.
  • On November 16, their first best album Sexy Zone 5th Anniversary Best was released in commemoration of their fifth anniversary since debut.

2017[]

  • On March 25, their nationwide concert tour Sexy Zone presents Sexy Tour 2017~STAGE was opened.
  • On March 29, their 13th single "ROCK THA TOWN" was released.
  • On October 4, their 14th single "Gyutto" was released. It was featured as the theme song for the drama Wagahai no Heya de Aru starring member Kikuchi on NTV.

2018: XYZ=repainting[]

  • On February 14, their fifth studio album XYZ=repainting was released.
  • On June 6, their 15th single "Innocent Days" was released. It was featured in the drama Miss Devil starring member Sato on NTV.
  • On August 25 to 26, they were appointed as the main personality of "24 JIKAN TV 41 - AI WA CHIKYUU WO SUKUU".
  • On November 28, Matsushima was announced to be stopping his entertainment activities to undergo medical treatment for panic disorder. Sexy Zone continues with its four members.
  • On December 5, their 16th single "Karakuridarake no Tenderness / Suppin KISS" was released. The earlier song was featured as the theme song for the drama Cops 'n Robbers starring member Nakajima on NTV.

2019: PAGES[]

  • On March 13, their sixth studio album PAGES was released.
  • On October 23, their 17th single "Kirin no Ko / Honey Honey" was released. The earlier song was featured as the theme song for the movie Black School Rules co-starring member Sato and Takahashi Kaito from King & Prince.

2020: POP×STEP!?[]

  • On February 5, their seventh studio album POP×STEP!? was released.
  • On March 24, their label move from Pony Canyon to Top J Records was announced.
  • On August 5, their 18th single "RUN" was released. It was featured as the theme song for the drama Miman Keisatsu: Midnight Runner co-starring member Nakajima and Hirano Sho from King & Prince on NTV.
  • On May 13, 2020, they participated in the "Smile Up! Project" under the unit "Twenty★Twenty" and released the single "smile" on August 12.
  • On August 12, Matsushima announced his return to entertainment activities. Soon, he appeared on "THE MUSIC DAY" with his fellow members on September 12. He also began participating in the variety program Sexy Zone no Shinkaron from episode 11 onwards. On October 19, five of the members appeared on the special live broadcast "Sexy Zone no All Night Nippon Premium" for about four hours.
  • On October 29 to 31, their first online concert Sexy Zone POP×STEP!? TOUR 2020 was held.
  • On November 4, their 19th single "NOT FOUND" was released. It was featured as the theme song for the drama Babel Kusaku starring Kikuchi on NTV.
  • On December 2, Marius was announced to stop his entertainment activities due to poor physical health. Sexy Zone continues with its four remaining members.

2021: SZ10TH[]

  • On January 23, their first online fan meeting "SZ10TH ONLINE FAN MEETING -Vol.1-" was held.
  • On March 3, their second best album SZ10TH was released in commemoration of their tenth anniversary since debut.
  • On March 12, their official YouTube channel was opened.
  • On March 24, their 20th single "LET'S MUSIC" was released. It was featured as the theme song for the drama Dekke Furoba de Mattemasu starring member Sato and Kitayama Hiromitsu from Kis-My-Ft2 on NTV.
  • On May 14, their official Twitter account was opened.
  • On August 4, their 21st single "Natsu no Hydrangea" was released. It was featured as the theme song for the drama Kanojo wa Kirei datta starring Nakajima on Fuji TV.
  • On September 29, their second online fan meeting "SZ10TH ONLINE FAN MEETING -Vol.2-" was held.

2022: The Highlight & Marius graduation[]

  • On May 31, their official site from Pony Canyon was closed.
  • On October 12, all regular editions of their discography released through Pony Canyon was re-released through Top J Records.
  • On June 1, their eighth studio album The Highlight was released.
  • On September 7, their 22nd single "Trust Me, Trust You." was released. It was featured as the theme song for the drama Friends Games: R4 starring member Kikuchi on TV Asahi.
  • On November 30, they were awarded "Men of the Year: Pop Icon Award" from GQ MEN OF THE YEAR 2022.
  • On December 27, their official Instagram account was opened.
  • On December 27, Marius announced his graduation from Sexy Zone and retirement from the entertainment industry. He made his final performance with the group on "Johnny's Countdown 2022-2023" on December 31, making it their first and last appearance that all five members appeared together on the show. Sexy Zone then continued with its remaining members: Nakajima, Kikuchi, Sato, and Matsushima.

2023: Chapter II[]

  • On May 3, their 23rd single "Cream" was released. It was featured as the theme song for the drama Tonari no Otoko wa yoku Taberu starring member Kikuchi on TV Tokyo.
  • On June 7, their ninth studio album Chapter II was released.
  • On July 13, their new song "Try This One More Time" was announced to be featured as the theme song for the Japanese-dubbed Hollywood blockbuster Transformers: Beast Awakening in which Nakajima dubbed the main character, Noah. It will be included in their new single "Honne to Tatemae" to be released on September 20.[1]
  • On October 12, their new song "Jinsei Yuugi" was announced to be featured as the theme song for the NTV drama Zeicho: Haraenai ni wa Wake ga Aru starring member Kikuchi Fuma. It will be released as their new single on December 13.[2]
  • On December 27, their label name change from Top J Records to Over The Top was announced.[3]

2024[]

  • On January 6, their 26th single "puzzle" was announced to be released on March 6, 2024.[4] It will also be their first single to be released under their new label, Over the Top. The song will be featured as the theme song for the drama Living-Room Matsunaga-san starring Nakajima Kento, which will start airing on January 9 on Fuji TV and KTV.
  • On January 8, Nakajima announced his graduation from Sexy Zone and will leave the group in March. Sexy Zone will continue its activities as a three-member system under a new name as of April 1.[5][6]
  • On April 1, Sato Shori, Kikuchi Fuma, and Matsushima So announced on their official YouTube and Instagram that their new group name is "timelesz". They also announced an arena tour starting in June and the "timelesz audition".[7]

  • They are the youngest debutants in Johnny's group history with an average age of 14.4 years old.[8] Nakajima, the oldest member, was 17 at the time.[8]
