XY is a boy group project produced by YOSHIKI and formed through the audition program YOSHIKI SUPERSTAR PROJECT X on NTV from 2022 to 2023.

The project consists of three units: Dance/Vocal Unit, Band Unit and Vocal Unit. The group is often referred to as an amoeba, with each member and unit able to perform separately or together.[1][2]

History[]

2022[]

On February 27, it was announced that a boy group audition produced by YOSHIKI titled YOSHIKI SUPERSTAR PROJECT X would be held.[6]

In April, it was revealed that two groups, a "band" and a "boy group", would be created through the audition program.[7]

From September 27 to November 5, 20 successful candidates were revealed for YOSHIKI SUPERSTAR PROJECT X.[8][9][10] These candidates were: Maruo Hayato, Oshima Rio, Saka Ryonosuke, Ijiri Ranma, Murakami Kyohei, Furuno Tatsushi, Sakamoto Kairi, YOSHI, Karuma, Kanazuru Hideki, Kawaguchi Riki, Iwamune Riku, Ohno Hiroki, Doki Raia, P→★, Nishigaki Michitaka, Kadowaki Shingo, Kono Tsubasa, Yamato Kota and Fujioka Kosei.[11][12]

On November 1, the members of the band were announced: Furuno Tatsushi as the bassist, Murakami Kyohei as the drummer, Sakamoto Kairi as the guitarist and YOSHI as the vocalist.[13]

On November 6, it was announced that YOSHI had passed away on November 5 due to a traffic accident.[14]

On November 15, it was announced that the program would continue the band and hold auditions for a new vocalist in response to the strong wishes of YOSHI's bereaved family.[15][16][17][18]

2023[]

On February 26, the contestants of YOSHIKI SUPERSTAR PROJECT X released the digital single "XY feat. YOSHI" as a tribute to YOSHI.[19]

On February 28, the group name and final debut members were announced.[20][1]

On June 30, XY made their major debut with the digital single "Crazy Love".

2024[]

On October 25, it was announced that Tegoshi Yuya would join XY as a new member. Additionally, a new documentary series titled YOSHIKI SUPERSTAR PROJECT X SEASON 2 would start airing on NTV.[21]

On November 26, an additional "vocal unit" of the group was introduced with members Tegoshi Yuya, HAYATO, JAY, KANJI and RAIA.[22]

2025[]

On January 22, the new unit "FASHION KILLAS" consisting of P→★ and KICE and with the concept of "self-production" and "free individuality" was introduced. They would plan to be active in a variety of creative elements, including not only music but also fashion, visuals, art, and dance.[23]
