Yamamoto Linda (山本リンダ) is a singer and multi-talent.

She began her entertainment career as a model in 1962, then made her music debut in 1966 with Komacchau na. The song was a massive hit that established her as a popular young idol of the time. Her following releases were less successful, and her popularity declined.

She transferred labels to Canyon Records in the early 1970s and found a second wave of popularity beginning with the hit Dou ni mo Tomaranai in 1972. This marked her rebranding from an idol to a singer with a sexy adult image.

On May 3, 2001, she married university professor Inaba Mitsuhiko.

Trivia[]

  • She is half American on her father's side. Her father was a soldier who died in the Korean War when she was one year old.
  • Although she is originally from Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, she has been based in Yokohama, Kanagawa since she was 5 years old (when she moved from Kitakyushu to Yokohama). Due to this, she considers Yokohama to be her hometown.
  • She had a problematic childhood, as in addition to losing her father, she was bullied by other children because she was a mixed-race child and because she spoke a different dialect from the other children (since, as mentioned above, she was not born in Yokohama, but rather in Kitakyushu, the second largest city in Fukuoka Prefecture).
  • Her mother is from Osaka and because of this, she always prepared Okonomiyaki when Linda was little, as Okonomiyaki was always Linda's favorite food and this helped her overcome the pain of being bullied for being a mixed-race child (or hafu).
